SCBWI-BI is pleased to announce the return of the Undiscovered Voices anthology. As with the previous anthologies, this book will highlight debut fiction writers exclusively from the SCBWI British Isles region membership. The printed anthology will present a selection of novel extracts from early readers up through young adult novels and be sent to editors and agents in the UK. As before, the anthology will be produced thanks to the kind support of Working Partners Ltd.

Only SCBWI British Isles un-agented and un-published members living in the UK can submit work for the anthology. See further eligibility rules below. There is no submission fee for this contest and the deadline is 1st June 2011. See below for the submission policy. On submission, each author must sign an agreement confirming adherence to the eligibility rules and giving SCBWI-BI the right to print the submitted extract.

A panel of children’s book editors, agents, booksellers and literary scouts will make the final selection for the anthology in late 2011. See the website for judging panel details. The book will be printed in early 2012 and copies of the anthology will be distributed free of charge to a comprehensive list of UK children’s book editors and agents, as well as the media, in order to achieve the most widespread industry attention to the authors and their stories.

The authors of the selected works will receive five complimentary copies of the printed anthology. In addition, they will receive judges’ written comment sheets on their work. The selected authors will be invited to attend a ‘getting discovered’ workshop and the book launch party to meet in person with the judges and other agents and editors who attend.
ELIGIBILITY
Must be a member in good standing of SCBWI-BI living in the UK.
New SCBWI-BI members must include the receipt of their online membership payment with the anthology submission. Visit www.britishscbwi.org for more information or to sign up www.scbwi.org. For membership queries, please contact SCBWI-BI Membership Coordinator Sue Hyams at membership AT britishscbwi.org.
Only debut fiction writers may submit work for consideration. A debut fiction writer is defined as a writer who has not had a novel or collection of short stories accepted for publication or currently published. Authors with only picture books published may submit. Authors who have only published non-fiction books or who have only been published in newspapers, magazines, anthologies or nonprint medium (i.e. radio, web, etc.) are also eligible. Similarly authors who have ghost written for book packagers or selfpublished may submit work. Authors with adult fiction published are not eligible.
Only unagented writers may submit work for consideration. Writers must remain unagented until the anthology is published in February 2012.
Only one submission per member.
You may not resubmit any extract from a novel you submitted for consideration in Undiscovered Voices 2008 or 2010. Authors included in the 2008 or 2010 anthology may not submit an entry for the 2012 anthology. Honorary mentions from the 2008 or 2010 anthologies may submit, as long as it is from a different novel.
Maximum word count for each submission is 4,000 and it must be an extract from the beginning of an already completed novel.
No picture book texts will be considered.
